Gibbons supplies some history and background before expounding on leporid-family characteristics, habitats, reproduction, and different breeds. She compares hares to rabbits and explains the difference between wild and domesticated. Three pages explain how to care for a pet rabbit and one page is dedicated to rabbit trivia and lore. The watercolor-and-ink illustrations have a sketchbook quality, and it is sometimes difficult to differentiate among many of the breeds mentioned. These pictures are not as sharp and clean as those found in the artist's previous books. Nevertheless, this title is a good read-aloud that will appeal to independent readers as well.
